Here's a statement:

I am a keeper of sketchbooks, a watcher of growing things and people, and a creator of messy images. To me, these paintings are about change, revision, and growth. Many started as pieces of white paper in one place and ended as you see them now, full of different ideas. leaves, weeds, growth, mistakes and missteps, community, social interactions, human growth, and paint on paper. Generally my paintings stem from observation but grow into abstraction, they just can't help it.The process of making art calms, educates, and grounds me.

I’ve trained as a painter and an art historian and am currently the manager of the Creative Workshop at the Memorial Art Gallery. My everyday is equal parts management and informal teaching (as I encourage people to begin or continue making art). I find the environment of a growing, changing, busy art school feeds my imagination when I escape to the quiet of my own studio.

I love the colors, the chaos, the noises, the business of a city, the frenetic process of painting, and the idea that my work can hold resonance for others. I welcome a chance to spur others to make art and creative trouble. Here's hoping you enjoy the color as you enjoy coffee and conversation.
